When an older relative begins to need help, knowing where to start can be difficult.
Good Companions has supported families across Cumbria for over 25 years. Our proposed community talks offer a welcoming opportunity to learn about different types of support, ask questions and understand the choices available.
We aim to make the conversation clear, practical and reassuring — whether members are planning for themselves, a partner, a parent or a friend.
Free of charge · Subject to speaker availabilityThe talk can be adapted to your group's interests and includes time for questions.
Common changes families notice, and how to begin a sensitive conversation about additional support.
How visiting care differs from live-in care, and when each may be appropriate.
Practical questions to consider when someone needs extra help following discharge.
An introduction to questions about care charges, assessments and possible funding routes — without offering individual financial advice.
We can also introduce members to Care Compass, our free online guide to exploring care options for themselves or their loved ones.
Talks are intended to be educational, not a substitute for individual care, legal or financial advice. Content, format and availability will be agreed with each group.
Your free guide to understanding care options for yourself or someone you love.
Unsure where to begin? Care Compass helps you consider your circumstances, explore different types of care and identify possible next steps — whether you are planning ahead or supporting a relative after a hospital stay.
