As a Domiciliary / Home Care Worker, you’ll help people remain safe, comfortable and independent in the place they know best — their own home. Sometimes the smallest things make the biggest difference.
Your day could include…
- Personal care, including washing and dressing support
- Preparing simple meals and drinks
- Medication support
- Shopping and light household tasks
- Simple healthcare tasks such as creams, patches and support stockings
- Companionship and being a friendly, reassuring presence
Are you who we’re looking for?
- A caring and compassionate nature
- Good communication skills
- Willing to work every other weekend and start from 7am
- Full UK driving licence — essential
- Eligible to work in the UK without sponsorship
- Home care experience preferred, but not essential — training provided
Live-in Carers — 24 hour care roles
Prefer to give one person your full attention? Live-in care means staying in a client’s home and supporting them around the clock, with your own room and your own time built into every day.
Day rate
per day
Equivalent to £3,600–£4,500 over a full 30-day month. Actual monthly earnings depend on your rota pattern — our team will talk you through the options at the Open Day.

Do I need care experience?
No. Experience is welcome but not essential. Good Companions provides training and ongoing support.
Do I need a driving licence?
Yes. A full UK driving licence is essential for these roles.
Are full-time and part-time roles available?
Yes. Both full-time and part-time opportunities are available.
Is travel time paid?
Yes. Travel time between clients is paid at £12.76 per hour in addition to your hourly rate, with mileage paid at 45p per mile.
Where will I be working?
Across CA1–CA14 postcodes, including Keswick, Penrith, Carlisle and surrounding villages. Some calls are rural or extra-rural.
Do I need to work weekends?
We ask applicants to be willing to work every other weekend.
Do I need to be available for early starts?
Yes. Applicants need to be able to start from 7am.
What is live-in care?
You stay in the client’s home and support them around the clock, with your own room and your own break time built into each day. It suits people who want to build a real relationship with one person rather than travelling between visits.
What does live-in care pay?
Live-in placements pay £120–£150 per day depending on the placement and your experience. Over a full 30-day month that equates to £3,600–£4,500, though most carers work a rota pattern. These are self-employed placements — the team can explain how this works for you.
Are live-in roles employed or self-employed?
Live-in placements are self-employed. You are paid £120–£150 per day directly and look after your own tax and National Insurance. Our hourly home care roles are employed positions with paid travel, mileage, pension and uniform.
Can I do live-in care and home care?
Come and talk to us at the Open Day. Some people prefer one or the other, and some move between them depending on what suits them at the time.
Do you offer sponsorship?
Applicants need to be eligible to work in the UK without sponsorship.
How does the £10 M&S Voucher offer work?
The voucher is limited to the first 25 applicants who register to work with Good Companions. The recruitment team can confirm full eligibility details.
